Frequently Asked Questions

Investor FAQ

Do I need a visa for a business trip to Benin?

Benin issues an electronic visa, typically within 48 to 72 hours, for most nationalities. ECOWAS nationals are exempt. We will guide you through the specific requirements based on your passport.

How do I register my business in Cotonou?

Direct deposit is available from the moment the account is opened, via the NEXORA Business Center : business address, mail handling, access to offices. It is compatible with registration through the APIEx one-stop shop.

How long does it actually take to start a company?

The registration process itself is quick (a few days via APIEx). The significant delays relate to sector-specific permits, opening a bank account, and land matters—we factor these into the project timeline.

Is there enough legal certainty to invest?

Benin applies OHADA law (the harmonized business law of 17 African states), recognizes international arbitration through the CCJA, and benefits from the monetary stability of the CFA franc. We will connect you with partner attorneys who are best suited to your case.

Can capital and dividends be repatriated?

Yes. Within the UEMOA, transfers related to foreign investment are unrestricted, subject to statistical and tax reporting requirements. The convertibility of the CFA franc into euros is guaranteed by the French Treasury.
